Open mic nights are always weird. When they feature middle aged black folks, anything can happen. This is the premise to my saturday night.
Whenever I go to Tribeca, I expect the best. I hope for the best. I pray for the best… Sadly, I am always disappointed. The funniest part about the disappointment I experience at Tribeca is that I don’t even know what I go there looking for. Tonight is different. Tonight, I had a plan.
I was told that we were meeting people here tonight. I’ve been attempting to improve my social skills this year… And so I figured hey, go meet some people, make some conversation, meet some people, repeat. Instead, I find myself playing third wheel to AJ and his date in a room full of people my mother’s age. Not that my mom is particularly old… Just of a different generation. I suppose this whole Augusta social scene is going to be harder to crack than I thought.
