The Gardening
September 12th, 2006 by antgooFound this cool little blog entry about Zach Braff’s films on digg. It’s funny. As much as I love Garden State, this entry does point out some funny things about patterns in his film.
At first I thought that Braff must have collaborated on the script, but he has no credit listed. Which is odd, considering the film follows Zach Braff’s 10 Easy Tips for Writing Films About Twenty-Somethings® to the letter.

Cliff Hanger Endings are Lame.
July 8th, 2006 by antgooI’m just coming out of Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest. I’m currently reserving a full review for later, when I’ve calmed down. Right now, I’m pissed, livid even. I’m not going to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, but I’m so done with these stupid cliff-hanger endings.
What ever happened to a self contained plot? What happened to closure?
I’m so sick of going to movies, expecting an interesting story and leaving feeling like the movie was cut short. I end up stuck in the middle of a year long commercial break while the director gets around to finishing the damn movie! Aaargh! It’s just so frustrating!
These abrupt endings work well on television when there’s about a week between episodes. But in the cinema, where there is typically about a year between films, it’s hard to hang on to what happened in the previous film. Granted, I understand how sequels should tie in at some way to the previous film, but I feel that a box office film should be self contained. I feel like I should be given the choice as to whether or not I see the next film. With harsh cliff hanger endings, I feel like I’ve been tricked into seeing two movies if I want to see a complete story.
Look for a full and spoiler-free review of Pirates at some point tomorrow.
